Vegan Poutine!

Last night I had a hankering for vegan poutine. So I sliced up some potatoes and made oven fries, shredded some Veganrella, made a batch of Bryanna Clark Grogan’s gravy and voila, we have poutine. Now I know real poutine has cheese curds and blah blah blah, but this sufficed quite nicely. Although it’s not the most picturesque thing ever, it was really tasty.

yes, i’m aware it has waaaay too much gravy for most people…but the gravy was so good!

This was my first time trying the Veganrella and honestly I didn’t think it was that bad. I know it’s gotten some bad reviews on the ‘net, but it tasted and smelled like mozza to me. Now granted I didn’t use this on a pizza and try to melt it under the broiler…perhaps that’s why I have a difference in opinion.

For those of you in the U.S. who are not sure what poutine is, you may want to check out the wikipedia page.

Faux Fish & Sweet Potato Fries

Tonight’s recipes are all from La Dolce Vegan. I once again attempted seitan by making faux “fish” breaded with shook’n'cook breading, along with cajun sweet potato fries. Oh, and some vegan tartar sauce i whipped up.

The verdict? It was pretty good. The “fish” was a wee bit salty for me, so I would cut back on that in the breading next time. The sweet potato fries were good, but I prefer the seasoning in this recipe from Allrecipes.com.
